Should I Build My Own PC or Buy a Prebuilt One?

I'm looking for some advice on whether to build my own PC or buy a prebuilt one. I've been away from the hobby for a few years and I'm on a limited budget. Here's what I'm considering: I can build a computer with these specs: Ryzen 7 5800X CPU, a Gigabyte B550M Gaming X WiFi 6 motherboard, G.Skill Ripjaws V 16GB of RAM, an XFX Swift RX 9060 XT 16GB GPU, a Raidmax Cobra 650W PSU, a Teamgroup MP44Q 1TB NVMe SSD, a Lian Li VECTOR V100R Mini case, and a Thermalright Aqua Elite 360 cooler. Alternatively, I could buy an iBuyPower PC from Costco that has an i5 14400F and an RTX 5060 8GB graphics card. What do you think?

Absolutely go with your build, but take a look at the PSU tier list. I recommend choosing a B tier or better since the brand you mentioned isn’t the best quality. It’s crucial for stability!

Thanks for the advice! The builder I got the list from also suggested a B tier PSU, so I'll definitely follow that.

Honestly, if the prebuilt is on sale, sometimes they can offer great value, especially if you're not looking to dive deep into building your own. What's the price difference between the two options you're looking at?

Building it yourself is the way to go! The components you've picked out are way more powerful than that prebuilt system. You'll have much better performance for gaming and future upgrades.

Thanks! This is the exact advice I was looking for, I've been out of the game a long time.

That prebuilt might not be a good choice, especially with the 8GB GPU in 2026. The 9060XT and 5800X combo will serve you much better in the long run!

I get the concerns, but for 1080p and most 1440p games, that 8GB card should be fine, even for some VR games at 4K.
