I've just built a PC for my friend using some older parts I had, but I've run into a frustrating issue. Every 30 seconds or so, the screen disconnects and then reconnects. This mostly happens when he's not playing games, but it can also happen during gameplay—though it's more frequent on the desktop, especially after playing. I've had him stream his screen on Discord, and everything seems to be running fine there, which makes me think the GPU is okay since I can see everything rendering correctly. I've already tweaked the power settings for both the PCI and Nvidia with no improvement. Here are the specs of the PC:
- Ryzen 5 3600
- Asus Prime B450M-A
- 16GB 3000MHz RAM
- RTX 3050 6GB (using PCI power only, no 6-pin)
- Bequiet System Power 7 300W PSU
I'm suspecting the power supply might be the cause since it's only 300W and pretty old. I've got a 550W MSI MAG Bronze rated PSU on the way to replace it, but I'm open to any other suggestions or help anyone can offer!

If it were me, I'd lean towards getting a more powerful PSU—something like a 400W might work even better for your setup. It could provide more stable power to your components.
The power supply definitely seems like a solid starting point. Have you checked if the power cable itself is functioning properly? Sometimes that can be the culprit surprisingly. By the way, have you tried a different monitor? Just to rule that out fully.
Don't underestimate cable issues! Make sure to inspect your cables thoroughly. Just a heads up, I had a similar problem once where my DP cable was barely hanging on due to damage from my standing desk!
