Why is my laptop’s CPU overheating and running at high clock speeds?

I recently bought an Acer Predator Helios Neo 18 AI laptop equipped with an Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX CPU, and I've noticed it running extremely hot. Just a month after purchasing it, the CPU temperature often exceeds 75°C even while idling and can reach upwards of 100°C under heavy use, like gaming or coding. I've cleaned the fans and reapplied thermal paste a couple of times with no improvement, and switching from High Performance to Balanced power settings seemed to make things worse. Surprisingly, the CPU clock speed stays above 4000MHz most of the time, even when my CPU usage is only around 10%. I do a lot of gaming and content creation, so I'm worried about how quickly it's wearing out. Has anyone experienced similar issues?

Honestly, with an i9-275HX, your laptop should be handling things better. Many users have flagged this model for overheating, and it seems like the factory cooling setup might not be sufficient for such a powerful CPU. Aside from cleaning and paste adjustments, consider ensuring that there’s enough airflow around the laptop and it’s placed on hard surfaces to avoid blocking vents.

It sounds like you might be experiencing some serious cooling issues. Considering you have a 24-core CPU, it’s possible that there's a specific application running a single-threaded process that's maxing out a core without showing high overall CPU usage. Have you checked the Task Manager to see if any individual core is stressed? Also, make sure your fan speeds are adequate; sometimes they may not ramp up correctly when needed.

I’d suggest getting a laptop cooling pad; it really can help with airflow, especially under load. I noticed significant temperature drops when I started using one. However, if you've already tried that and it's still running hot, it might just be that this laptop model doesn't manage heat well with that CPU. Lots of users have reported similar overheating problems.
