My Acer Nitro V 15 was working normally a few days ago, but now it won't power on unless the charger is connected. Pressing the power button while it's unplugged produces three red beeps from the side of the laptop. It starts normally when plugged in. Interestingly, holding the power button for about 20–30 seconds sometimes lets it start on battery power. Could this still be a dead or malfunctioning battery?

This sounds like the battery has failed or is no longer charging properly. Since the laptop works normally from the charger but not by itself, the battery or its charging circuitry is the most likely cause. Check whether the operating system detects the battery and whether its charge percentage changes. If it shows an error, stays at zero, or says it isn’t charging, have the battery tested and replaced by a qualified repair shop.
The symptoms could also point to the battery being stuck in a protection or storage state. Some batteries can still run a laptop after it boots but won’t provide enough power during startup. Try a full power reset: shut the laptop down, disconnect the charger, hold the power button for around 30 seconds, then reconnect the charger and let it charge for several hours. If it still only starts reliably when plugged in, the battery likely needs replacement.
The battery may indeed be the issue. Holding the power button for 20–30 seconds can sometimes reset the laptop’s power controller, but it won’t fix a battery that can no longer hold or provide power.
