Hey everyone! I recently won a PC from a contest and have been upgrading it slowly over time. I've added 64GB of DDR5 RAM and a GeForce RTX 4080 Super, but I've been experiencing some major issues. While streaming with OBS, my PC frequently crashes or freezes, forcing me to do a hard reset. I've tried adjusting my OBS settings and using GPU encoding, but it hasn't helped. I've done some research and learned that the CPU might be the culprit—apparently, it has a defect that causes excessive power use and potential damage. I didn't realize this until a few months after I got the PC. Here's my current build:
- Intel Core I7 14700k (which seems to be the troublemaker)
- GEForce RTX 4080 Super
- 64GB DDR5 RAM
- Corsair 850W 80+ Gold Modular PSU
- Micro-Star International Co., Ltd. - PRO Z790-P WIFI (MS-7E06) motherboard
If the CPU is indeed damaged, I need advice on what to replace it with, ideally without changing my motherboard. I'd appreciate any thoughts you all have!

If your CPU is degraded, it’s definitely worth checking the warranty. Just so you know, there aren’t really any upgrades available for the 14700K on the LGA1700 socket, except for the 14900K, which isn't really worth it if you’re focused on gaming and streaming. Also, if you're using 4x16GB of RAM, you might want to disable XMP; stability can suffer with all four sticks installed.
Yeah, you should still be able to get warranty support from Intel. Just make sure to explain the situation clearly.
Have you tried reaching out to Intel? They extended the warranty for these CPUs, so you might be able to get a free replacement for it.

I actually have 2 x 32GB sticks because I accidentally damaged one of my slots during installation. Do you think I can still get Intel to warranty it even though I won this PC as a prize?
