I'm in the process of selecting a power supply for my PC and could really use some guidance. I've calculated the wattage several times using multiple calculators, and I consistently get an average between 630-650W. Considering the efficiency typically hovers around 50%, do you think I should aim for a power supply that's rated around 1200-1300W? Additionally, I'm curious about which brands are known for their reliability and quality components. I've seen some concerning videos about PCs burning out, particularly at the GPU connections, and I'd like to avoid that situation.

You might not need as much overhead as you're thinking. An 850W or 1000W power supply should be more than sufficient for your needs. I recommend checking out a PSU Tier List for more insights on which units stand out in quality.

Overhead only becomes crucial if you have a high-end graphics card known for causing "Transient Spikes." In general, most setups can safely use a PSU that's about 20% over their actual peak demand. Without your full component list, I can't give a specific recommendation, but for typical mid-tier setups, an 850W PSU should serve you well throughout your PC's life. Brands like SeaSonic, BeQuiet, and Corsair are top picks, and many of these units come with lengthy warranties on their higher-end models.

It really depends on your components. Unless you're running something extreme like a 5090 GPU, you probably don't need to go overboard with a 1000W PSU. Corsair has a good reputation for reliable power supplies if you're looking for a trustworthy brand.
