I have an older external drive that connects via FireWire 800, and I'm looking to recover some files from it. I've searched for adapters online, but most of them are way too pricey for my budget. I'd prefer not to take apart the external drive and use a SATA dongle if I can avoid it. Does anyone have suggestions for more affordable alternatives to the Apple dongle?

Finding affordable FireWire 800 to Thunderbolt solutions can be tricky! You might want to consider a Thunderbolt dock that includes FireWire ports, as sometimes those are cheaper than Apple's offerings. Also, keep an eye out for the Apple Thunderbolt Display, which can be found at good prices and gives you a nice 27" screen as a bonus!

Thanks for these tips! Cracking open my external drive and connecting it directly seems like it might be the simplest way to go.
