I'm troubleshooting a problem that only happens in Apex Legends. My system has a Ryzen 5 7600X, Radeon RX 9070, 32 GB of DDR5 RAM, and a wired gigabit connection through Xfinity. I'm currently using a spare Radeon RX 5500 XT 8 GB because Apex crashes before launching with the RX 9070, which appears to be a known issue with driver version 28.6.1. I installed the appropriate 5500 XT drivers, but now Apex freezes my entire screen for roughly half a second to two seconds repeatedly during every match. The issue occasionally happened with the RX 9070, but it is much more frequent with the 5500 XT. Everything worked normally on this same setup a few weeks ago, and no other games seem affected. I'm not sure whether this is a graphics-driver, power-supply, hardware, or network problem. What should I check first?

The symptoms and hardware details are mixed together, so start by separating the problems. A full-screen freeze is more likely to involve the GPU, driver, system stability, or possibly the power supply than your internet connection. Check that the PSU is rated appropriately and that all GPU power cables are connected correctly. Then remove the current AMD display drivers with a clean-driver utility, reboot, and install only the correct driver for the 5500 XT. If Apex still freezes, test another game and check Windows Event Viewer for display-driver or hardware errors.
Sorry for the confusion—the main issue I’m trying to describe is the severe freezing during matches. I’m not sure whether the original crashes with the 9070 and the current freezes with the 5500 XT have the same cause.
