Are in-game ads coming to Windows, and is Bazzite ready for an Nvidia gaming setup?

I've seen claims that Windows or Microsoft may introduce ads during games, such as interrupting gameplay or cutscenes with a 30-second advertisement. Is this actually planned, or is it being exaggerated from a patent or concept? I'm frustrated with Windows and considering switching to Linux. I have an Nvidia GPU, so I'm wondering how reliable Nvidia drivers are today, whether Bazzite would be a good choice for gaming, and what I should learn about the terminal and Linux basics before switching.

Bazzite is a reasonable choice if your main goal is gaming. It is designed to be fairly user-friendly and comes with many gaming-focused tools already configured. You wonโt need to live in the terminal, but learning basic commands for installing packages, checking hardware, viewing logs, and troubleshooting will help. Before switching, check whether your multiplayer games use anti-cheat systems that support Linux, and test your important applications with a live USB or dual boot first.

The ad claim is being overstated. Microsoft appears to have patented a system describing possible advertisements in games, but that doesnโt mean Windows is currently stopping your game to play ads. It may be aimed at future games or cloud-gaming services, and it might never become a real product. The best way to discourage this kind of thing is to avoid buying games that use intrusive advertising.

Nvidia drivers generally work well on Linux these days, especially on common desktop distributions. There can still be issues with newer hardware, Wayland, hybrid laptops, or specific games, but the idea that Nvidia is universally unusable is outdated. Your exact GPU, CPU, and monitor setup matter more than the brand alone.
