Are my new PS4 controller batteries safe to use or did I mess up?

I recently bought new batteries for my PS4 controller, and they arrived with a black plastic coating. The online description said this coating was normal and should be removed before installation, but when I peeled it off, the actual battery looks metallic with a matte silver finish and some gold-toned strips on the sides. I was expecting them to look like the original ones that came with my controller. Did I make a mistake, or is this how they usually look?

I get your concern about the batteries! Finding lithium-ion batteries that fit a PS4 controller can be tough, especially at local stores.

Honestly, it depends on what you're installing it into. If the cells are now uninsulated, there is a risk of shorting out. Just be mindful when you use them.

These are going into a PS4 controller. I only unwrapped one so I have a backup.

It sounds like you might have removed an outer wrap that wasn't supposed to be taken off. Those batteries should work fine, even if they look a bit odd. The customer service rep probably didn’t understand what they were talking about and assumed it was just packing material.

It's always the AI reps causing confusion, right? Glad to hear it should be okay to use.

Phew, I was getting worried about safety! Guess I’ll try it out.
