Are There Affordable Alternatives to the X API for Reading and Posting?

I'm building an app that needs to read posts and user-account information from X, then publish around 100 posts per day. At medium scale, I expect to read roughly 10,000 posts daily, but the official API would cost about $1,500 per month, which is outside my budget. I tried Twikit, but it seems poorly maintained and unreliable. Are there any more affordable, open-source, or otherwise practical alternatives?

There doesnโ€™t appear to be a dependable free replacement for the official API. Unofficial scraping libraries tend to break whenever the site changes and may violate the platformโ€™s terms, so theyโ€™re risky for a production app. One third-party provider called Unipile has been used for similar projects, but its availability and long-term support may be changing, so check its current status before building around it.

For X itself, the realistic choices are paying for the official access, reducing how much data you collect, caching results aggressively, or redesigning the app to avoid automated posting and large-scale reading. A completely free, stable, full-featured API alternative is unlikely to last.

If you need the same kind of functionality but arenโ€™t tied specifically to X, you could consider platforms with more accessible APIs, such as Mastodon or Bluesky. They wonโ€™t provide Xโ€™s users or data, though, so theyโ€™re only realistic alternatives if you can change where your app gets content.
