I'm building my first PC with a Ryzen 7 7800X3D and need to keep costs under control after choosing DDR5 memory. I'm considering a Thermalright AIO because the pricing looks good, and I like the models that include an LED display. Are Thermalright AIO coolers reliable and worthwhile for this CPU, or would I be better off with a less expensive air cooler?

For a 7800X3D, a good air cooler is usually the better value. Something like a Thermalright Peerless Assassin or Phantom Spirit can handle the chip easily in a case with decent airflow, while avoiding pump noise and possible pump failure.
If you specifically want an AIO, Thermalright models are generally a solid budget option and offer good performance for the price. Just make sure the radiator fits your case and check the warranty before buying.
Agreed. An AIO mainly makes sense here if you prefer the appearance or want features like an LCD screen; it isn’t necessary for the CPU’s performance or temperatures.
