I recently upgraded to a Ryzen 7 5700X and am seeing idle temperatures around 55–60°C, occasionally reaching 64°C. The cooler and thermal paste were installed correctly and double-checked by an experienced PC builder. I'm using a Cooler Master Hyper 212 Black Edition in a Fractal Design Meshify XL with the two stock fans aimed toward the CPU and graphics card area.
While gaming at ultra settings with ray tracing, the temperatures seem much more reasonable: Cyberpunk 2077 reached around 60–67°C and peaked at 71°C during an intense scene, while Red Dead Redemption 2 stayed in the 60s and never reached 70°C.
Ryzen Master shows relatively high idle voltage, and Task Manager reports the processor running at over 4 GHz and often displaying 100% frequency. Are these idle readings normal for a Ryzen 7 5700X, or should I investigate something further?

Those temperatures are safe and your gaming temperatures are especially good. The Hyper 212 is a reasonable but fairly basic cooler, and Ryzen processors can show higher idle temperatures because they boost individual cores aggressively for short bursts. The reported package temperature may also reflect the hottest small hotspot rather than the average temperature of the whole CPU.
Make sure you’re distinguishing frequency from utilization in Task Manager. Showing 100% of the processor’s current frequency does not mean the CPU is using 100% of its processing capacity. Check the CPU usage percentage and the individual processes as well. If usage really stays near 100% while doing nothing, look for a runaway application, update chipset drivers, and run a malware scan.
The idle temperature is a little higher than ideal, but it isn’t dangerous by itself. Ryzen commonly raises voltage and clocks briefly in response to background tasks, so an idle temperature in the mid-50s can be normal depending on room temperature, fan curves, BIOS settings, and background software. Your load temperatures suggest the cooler and airflow are working properly.

That makes sense. I was treating the frequency percentage as CPU load, so I’ll check the actual utilization and which processes are running in the background.
