I'm reaching out to see if anyone else has been in the same boat as us with Azure Selective Disk Backup using a Standard policy. We've discovered that even excluded disks are still racking up costs for snapshots, which has been a huge surprise! In fact, we were spending over $45,000 each month on snapshots for disks that we didn't even plan to back up.
After reviewing our expenses, we found that we were burning through around $531,000 a year on these unnecessary snapshots. Switching to an Enhanced policy drastically reduced our costs to just $86 a month. I'd love to know how much others are spending monthly on unusable snapshots from excluded disks, and how many disks you're excluding in your setups. Have you checked your Azure usage lately?
