A friend gave me an ASUS ROG Strix X570-E Gaming motherboard that powers on but never completes POST. The Q-Code display stops at 37 and the amber Q-LED suggests a DRAM initialization problem. The board reportedly worked normally until the CPU was replaced, after which the system stopped booting. No other changes are known. Could this be caused by CMOS settings, failed memory training, or incorrectly seated components, or might the CPU swap have damaged the socket, CPU memory controller, or motherboard? What troubleshooting steps would be worth trying before assuming the board is permanently damaged?

Since the failure began immediately after the CPU was changed, carefully inspect the CPU socket for bent or damaged pins and check that the replacement CPU is seated correctly. A damaged socket contact can interfere with the CPU’s memory channels and produce a DRAM-related POST code. It’s also worth clearing CMOS, reseating the RAM, and testing with one known-good module, but the socket should be a priority to examine.

That’s possible, although my friend said he simply didn’t have time to troubleshoot and replaced the board for work. I’ll inspect the socket and CPU installation closely before writing the motherboard off.
