I created an AWS account for my startup with our company email, intending to use it later. We ended up building the MVP on cheaper providers, so I never actually used the AWS account. Now I need a more robust setup, but I can't sign in, and trying to create a new account says the email address is already associated with an existing AWS account. Is there a way to recover or reactivate the original account, or am I stuck using a different email address?

An email address can only be associated with one AWS account, even if you never deployed anything or actively used the account. Try recovering the original account through the AWS sign-in or account-recovery process rather than registering again. If your email provider supports plus addressing, an address such as [email protected] may also work as a separate login, but it would be better to regain access to the original account first.

That explains it. I’ll try recovering the original account first, and use a separate address only if I can’t get back in.
