I'm on the hunt for an affordable AMD AM5 motherboard that can support the following configuration:
- A 9100pro 2TB (5.0x4)
- Two 990evo plus 4TB drives (either 5.0x2 or 4.0x4)
- At least one SATA drive
- A 4070ti Super GPU without cutting lanes
- A 9800x3d CPU
As I've started my search, I've come across info that says some motherboards disable PCIe lanes when M.2 drives are connected, while others don't. Why is that? It's been pretty confusing, especially since I assumed I just needed to check the slot types. I've watched a few videos, but I'm still a bit lost. Plus, I want to keep the cost of the motherboard lower than all my other components combined, including the CPU. Can anyone recommend motherboards that would work for this build?

Motherboards have a limited number of PCIe lanes, and the way these are allocated can really depend on the motherboard's design. You'd likely want to focus on an X-series motherboard, as they typically have more PCIe lanes available and offer better compatibility for your needs. This way, you won't run into too many restrictions when connecting everything.

Wait, so does that mean the available lanes could change based on the CPU I choose to use?
