Hey everyone! I have a 2080 Ti from work and I'm looking to upgrade my CPU to prevent any bottlenecking with my current i5-6600. I posted something similar a while back, but I still haven't made a decision, so I'm hoping to get some fresh recommendations. I was previously suggested the Ryzen 5 7600X; is that still a solid choice, or are there better options available now? Also, which motherboard would pair well with it?

The Ryzen 5 7600X or the 9600X would both work well with your 2080 Ti. If you're on a tighter budget, the 7600X is a great choice, but the 9600X is only about $20 more and might be worth it for the performance boost. For the motherboard, a solid B850 board is a good bet. I usually suggest the Aorus Elite Wifi7, which is around $230, but if you're looking to save, a B650 should be around $150.

Thanks! I think I'm going to go with the 9600X. Quick question: what's the difference between the motherboards? Is it mainly about DDR5 support? I only use Ethernet, no Wi-Fi.

Yeah, the main difference is indeed DDR5 support. DDR5 is faster but more expensive. If you don't need Wi-Fi, you could definitely save more with a reliable B650 board.

When it comes to finding the best CPU for your GPU, it's not so much about finding the top CPU as it is finding one that won't bottleneck your performance. The Ryzen 7 9800X3D is overkill for a 2080 Ti, but any decent entry-level CPU, including the R5-7600, should suffice for gaming. Just ensure it's good enough to keep up with the graphics card for a smooth experience.
