Hey everyone! I've got an older Samsung Tab A model SM-T280 that's been running pretty slow lately. I'm thinking about switching to a lighter operating system to boost its performance. Since I'm new to Linux, I'd love to hear your suggestions or insights on potential options. Any recommendations or tips would be hugely appreciated!

You might want to flash an AOSP-based Android ROM like LineageOS instead of trying to install Linux directly on your tablet. Itโ€™s usually a better fit for these kinds of devices and can really help with speed and performance.

Yeah, there really isnโ€™t a dedicated Linux distro for Android tablets. If youโ€™re set on changing things up, Iโ€™d recommend going with a custom ROM, like LineageOS. Itโ€™s what I have on my Tab A7, and it runs well. Just make sure you check that the touchscreen and any stylus features will work on your specific model if you go that route.

Unfortunately, there aren't any Linux distributions specifically made for Android devices like yours. Android is technically a Linux-based OS, but if you're looking for something lighter, consider a custom ROM. LineageOS is a popular choice, and Iโ€™ve used it on my devices with good results! Just keep in mind that youโ€™ll be relying on third-party developers for support.
