Best RAM Recommendations for 9950X3D Build

Hey everyone! I haven't built a PC in a while, and I'm looking to get back into it. I'm planning on getting an AMD 9950X3D along with a GIGABYTE X870E AORUS PRO motherboard. My use case will be a mix of gaming, photo editing in Lightroom, and occasionally video encoding.

I've read that I can use DDR5 RAM ranging from 6000 to 8000 MHz speeds. I'm curious if opting for the higher speeds really brings noticeable performance improvements. Plus, I've heard stability can be an issue with speeds above 6000 MHz since they often require overclocking (OC).

I think 64GB of RAM should be sufficient for my needs, but I've also heard that it's generally better to use only 2 sticks instead of 4 with AMD/AM5 to avoid potential complications. I'm willing to spend around $200-250, but I definitely don't want to overspend for minimal performance gains. What's the most sensible approach to speed, latency, and overall price-performance ratio?

With the 9950X3D, going for 32 or 64GB of RAM is a good move. Just make sure it's DDR5-6000 with a CAS latency of 30 for optimal performance.

Got it, CL30 sounds great! Thanks for helping me narrow it down.

Check out the motherboard's QVL list for compatible RAM. That way, you can sort by speed, then pick a kit that fits your budget with the lowest latency for that speed. Generally, you won't notice a huge difference with RAM speeds unless you're doing something specific like using Topaz Video Enhance AI. And do you really need 64GB? Most tasks can run fine on 32GB unless you're working with enormous datasets. If budget is tight, that might be a better route.
