I'm looking for a reliable U.S. SIM or eSIM that I can activate while I'm in India. Here are my requirements: I need a valid U.S. mobile number from a real carrier (not a VoIP or virtual number), it should be able to receive SMS in India for activating Apple iMessage, and importantly, I need to see the number in the 'Send & Receive' section of iMessage. Also, I'd like to know if there's a way to activate the service without being physically present in the U.S.

You could try using the Airalo app. It’s designed for travelers and often has good options for eSIMs that you can activate in different countries, including India.
A U.S. SIM from a genuine carrier should work for you, but keep in mind, it might be pretty pricey to use it while in India. If the cost isn't a concern for you, just be sure to check which companies actually allow activation outside of the U.S. because many don't.
