Best Wi-Fi Drivers for HP Laptops Running Linux

I'm currently using an HP laptop with a Realtek RTL8852BE Wi-Fi 6 PCIe adapter, and I'm facing consistent issues with the Wi-Fi drivers across various Linux distributions. The connection tends to drop or become unstable, particularly when I'm multitasking or running resource-intensive applications like virtual machines. I've tried different kernel versions and switched between open-source and proprietary drivers, but the problems still persist, especially while the laptop is charging. This instability interrupts my workflow significantly, making reliable Wi-Fi a crucial factor in my choice of Linux distribution. I'm looking for recommendations on stable Wi-Fi drivers or potential hardware replacements that could resolve these issues.

Have you tried updating to Linux kernel 6.18? The drivers for the Realtek RTL8852BE were recently updated in that version, and it might solve a lot of your connectivity issues. It's worth a shot if you haven't done it yet!

Yeah, I did give that kernel a try, but the problem still stuck around.

If you're dealing with those Realtek drivers, my recommendation is to ditch that card and upgrade to an Intel AX210 or AX200. They're pretty budget-friendly, around $15, and will save you from the hassle of getting Realtek drivers to work. Plus, you can find disassembly videos to help you swap it out easily. This upgrade not only improves Wi-Fi but also enhances Bluetooth performance, which is often problematic on Linux. Definitely worth considering!

I heard that some HP models have a BIOS whitelist for Wi-Fi cards though. Have you checked if that's the case for your laptop?

Honestly, upgrading to an Intel chip is the best option if you can. The hassle of dealing with flaky Realtek drivers isn't worth it. They’re usually easier to work with on Linux and have fewer issues overall. Just make sure to disconnect the battery before making any changes!
