I currently have a Gigabyte B450M DS3H with a Ryzen 5 5600. After previously updating the BIOS to version F60 to support the 5600, I'm considering upgrading to a Ryzen 7 5800X3D. Will this motherboard support the processor, and could its power delivery cause problems or damage the CPU during heavy workloads? I'm also wondering whether the board's PCIe 3.0 limitation makes the upgrade less worthwhile. AM5 isn't very appealing where I live because DDR5 memory is extremely expensive, and I'd prefer to keep my current DDR4 system for now.

The board should not damage the 5800X3D, provided the BIOS version officially supports it and the VRM has adequate airflow. The B450M DS3H is an entry-level board, but the 5800X3D generally draws around 60–75 W in games and roughly 110–120 W in demanding stress tests. If the motherboard struggles under a sustained full load, it should reduce power or CPU clock speeds rather than harm the processor. Check Gigabyte’s CPU support list before installing it, and make sure you have a decent CPU cooler and case airflow.
For your situation, staying on AM4 makes sense. Moving to AM5 would require a new motherboard and DDR5 memory, and the cost difference may not be worthwhile if DDR5 is especially expensive in Latvia. A reasonably priced 5800X3D can still be a strong gaming upgrade from the 5600, letting you keep your current board and RAM. Just don’t expect the same upgrade path that a new AM5 platform would provide.
If you already updated to BIOS F60, verify that the 5800X3D is listed as supported for that exact motherboard revision. If it is, you should be fine. PCIe 3.0 is not a major problem for this upgrade, especially for gaming; you simply won’t get PCIe 4.0 bandwidth from the platform.

Some BIOS features, such as PBO or Curve Optimizer, may not be available on this specific B450 BIOS. The CPU should still run normally at stock settings if the required BIOS support is present.
