My mouse stopped working after I repeatedly slammed it against my desk. I'm not sure which component failed or whether there's anything I can do to repair it, or if replacing it is the more practical option.

The physical impacts are almost certainly the cause. If the shell, switches, circuit board, or internal connections were damaged, repairing it may require specialized tools and replacement parts. For a typical mouse, buying a replacement will usually be easier and cheaper.
There probably isn’t a simple fix if it was damaged by repeated smashing. You could open it and check for loose cables or visibly broken parts, but avoid damaging anything further. Replace it and try not to strike the new one when it misbehaves.
