I have a 10th-generation iPad that is still enrolled in a school's mobile device management system. The organization that operated the school has gone bankrupt, its owners were arrested, and the IT department is no longer available. The iPad is stuck at the Remote Management screen, and removing the profile locally is disabled. Even after a factory reset, the device contacts the management service again during setup. Is there any legitimate technical or administrative process to have the serial number removed from Apple School Manager, perhaps by providing proof of the organization's closure or bankruptcy? I'm trying to determine whether the hardware can be made usable or whether it is effectively limited to parts.

If the iPad is still assigned to the organization’s management system, a factory reset will not remove the enrollment. It normally has to be released by an administrator from the organization’s Apple School Manager account. If that organization no longer exists, there may be no practical way to complete the release, and Apple generally does not provide a user-side bypass for institutional enrollment. Without an authorized administrator or a successful ownership review, the device may be usable only for parts.
