I'm trying to recover text messages that were in my Recently Deleted folder for only about two days before part of the folder suddenly disappeared. I'm wondering whether making or restoring an iCloud backup could bring them back. My phone says the most recent iCloud backup failed, and I'm not sure whether Messages in iCloud was enabled or whether my messages were actually included in a device backup.

It depends on how Messages was configured. If Messages in iCloud was enabled, your conversations sync separately through iCloud and aren’t stored in the normal device backup. A backup also won’t preserve messages that had already been deleted from the phone. Since the latest backup failed, it wouldn’t be useful for recovery anyway. Check whether the messages still appear on another Apple device using the same account, but if they disappeared from Recently Deleted everywhere, recovery may not be possible.

Is there any way to get them back? They had only been in Recently Deleted for about two days, and half of the folder vanished even though deleted messages are supposed to remain there for roughly 30 days.
