Can an RTX 2060 Super and Ryzen 5 3600X handle a 2,000 Hz controller?

I'm considering a controller that supports a 2,000 Hz polling rate. My system has an RTX 2060 Super, a Ryzen 5 3600X, and a 200 Hz monitor. I've heard that older hardware can experience FPS drops, stuttering, or hitching with high-polling-rate input devices, especially when a game is already under heavy load. Is my PC likely to handle 2,000 Hz reliably, or would I be better off choosing a controller with a lower polling rate? I'd prefer to make the right choice without dealing with returns.

High polling rates have caused problems for some people, but a lot of the widely reported Windows issues were fixed. That doesnโ€™t guarantee every game or driver will behave perfectly, though. If the controller lets you change the polling rate, you have a safe fallback instead of being stuck with 2,000 Hz.

The best answer depends on the particular games you play. Even older systems can run high-polling devices without trouble, while a specific game or driver may react badly. Your setup isnโ€™t automatically too old for it, so I wouldnโ€™t rule out the controller solely because of the polling rate.

Since youโ€™re choosing between controllers and canโ€™t easily return them, check whether the model has a configurable polling-rate setting and look for reports about its software. Being able to switch from 2,000 Hz to 1,000 Hz gives you a practical workaround if you run into stutters.

It isnโ€™t a simple yes-or-no based on the graphics card and processor. The impact depends heavily on the game, how much CPU time it uses, and how the controller driver handles high polling. Your Ryzen 5 3600X should generally be capable of handling it, but if you notice hitching or unusual CPU usage, lowering the rate to 1,000 Hzโ€”or even lowerโ€”should solve it.
