I'm considering buying an RTX 3080, and I'm wondering if it can handle 4K gaming. I've read that the 10GB of VRAM might be a concern, but will it be sufficient for quality performance, especially with DLSS5 technology?

Yes, but it will be a challenge. It’s a solid card for 1440p gaming, and with the VRAM limits, 4K will have to be set to lower settings for a smoother experience. If you're aiming for high FPS, I’d recommend sticking with 1440p on a 27" monitor.

I’m also torn between the 3080 and the RX 6800 XT. The AMD card seems to offer better 4K performance, but at the cost of ray tracing. I’m wondering if 2K with ray tracing would be better than straight 4K without it. Whatever I choose, I’m set on a 27" monitor.

Having used a 3080 with a 4K OLED for a while, it runs okay, but you really have to watch your VRAM and adjust your texture settings to fit within the 10GB limit. It's manageable, just keep an eye on those settings.

The RTX 3080 can run 4K, but don’t expect top-notch quality settings. You might experience some frame drops since 10GB of VRAM is a bit low for 4K gaming. Still, it should manage to play games at 4K resolution just fine.
