Hey everyone! I'm looking to get a new 240Hz 1440p monitor for gaming, but here's the catch: my laptop only has an HDMI output and no DisplayPort. Is there a way to use an HDMI to DisplayPort cable to achieve 240Hz? Any advice would be appreciated!

Unfortunately, you can't directly convert HDMI to DisplayPort to achieve 240Hz because the two interfaces work differently. DisplayPort can handle more signals than HDMI, so starting from HDMI won't give you the desired refresh rate.
An active adapter might work for this, but as mentioned, they can be pricey and uncommon. If you're shopping for a monitor, it might be better to find one that supports 240Hz over HDMI directly rather than trying to convert.
You mean I should just look for a monitor that can handle 240Hz and 1440p through HDMI instead of messing with adapters?
Not really an option with HDMI to DisplayPort, but if your laptop has a USB-C port that supports DisplayPort output, there's a better chance of hitting 240Hz. Worth checking!
You could get a special HDMI 2.1 to DisplayPort 1.4 adapter, but keep in mind these are pretty rare and often expensive. They might not even support 1440p at 240Hz, so if you're getting a new monitor, make sure it can run that resolution and refresh rate directly through HDMI.
So, are you saying I need a monitor that supports 240Hz via HDMI directly?

That’s a bummer. So, there's really no way to do it?
