Can I Build a Full-Stack Android App Mostly With Free AI Chatbots?

I have basic Java knowledge and want to build a full-stack Android application using free AI chatbots and other free tools, without paying for software or services. I'm not expecting to finish in a dayโ€”I'm willing to spend several months learning, using daily free credits, and gradually improving the project. How realistic is this approach, and could it eventually help me earn money through Java and AI?

Donโ€™t give up because you only know basic Java. Start with small Android projects, learn the language properly, and use AI to explain errors, suggest exercises, and review code. If you cannot understand or maintain the code it produces, the project will become difficult as soon as something breaks.

Itโ€™s possible to get an app running quickly, but AI wonโ€™t replace learning the fundamentals. Youโ€™ll need to understand Java, Android development, databases, APIs, authentication, debugging, deployment, and security well enough to check whether the generated code is actually correct. Treat AI as a tutor and coding assistant rather than someone building the whole product for you.

OrbitingPine6: A good way to learn is to build small projects and gradually increase the scope. A few months of consistent practice can take you much further than repeatedly asking an AI to generate an entire application.

The real difficulty depends on the app. A simple prototype with a few screens and a basic backend may be achievable with free tools, while a reliable, scalable product with payments, user accounts, security, and ongoing maintenance is much harder. Define the app, its features, target users, and technical requirements before deciding whether the plan is realistic.

Free AI credits can help you learn and prototype, but they are not a business plan by themselves. First solve a specific problem and validate that people want the app. Then think about hosting costs, third-party services, support, and how you would earn money. Building something just because it can be generated by AI rarely leads to a profitable product.
