I have a 2020 Chevy Spark without a built-in CD player, and I'd like to use physical CDs instead of relying on streaming or storing music as files. I'm trying to find out whether a USB CD player can connect directly to the car's USB port and play audio through the factory stereo. I'm not sure whether my Spark has an AUX input, so I'd also appreciate practical alternatives if USB won't work. I'm open to a portable CD player, Bluetooth, an FM transmitter, or simply being told that this setup isn't realistic.

If the goal is having a deliberate, offline music collection rather than streaming, a flash drive loaded with your own ripped albums is the most reliable solution. You can use lossless files such as FLAC if the car supports them, though many factory stereos only recognize MP3, AAC, or WAV. It isn’t the same physical experience as changing CDs, but it avoids the connection and skipping problems.
A normal USB CD/DVD drive almost certainly won’t work when plugged into the car. The USB port generally expects a flash drive or a supported phone, not an optical drive, and the stereo has no software for controlling or decoding that drive. A USB CD player may be powered by the port, but that doesn’t mean the car can receive its audio.
There are car-specific CD players that claim to work over USB, but compatibility depends entirely on the vehicle’s infotainment system. Unless the manufacturer specifically lists the 2020 Spark as supported, I wouldn’t count on one. Bluetooth or an FM transmitter is much more universal, although you won’t get track controls or album information through the car’s screen.
The simplest physical-CD setup is a portable CD player connected through the Spark’s AUX input, assuming your trim has one. Check around the lower center console for a 3.5 mm jack. If there’s no AUX input, use a portable CD player with Bluetooth or connect one to an FM transmitter. A player with anti-skip protection is important because ordinary portable players can struggle with road vibration.
Some portable players advertise USB, but that often means USB charging or reading files from a storage device. It doesn’t necessarily mean they can send CD audio through the car’s USB port.
A USB stick also avoids carrying and damaging discs in the car, and you can organize it by album so it still feels fairly simple to use.
