Can I Convert a Wired Headset to Bluetooth Without Buying a New One?

My wired headset costs nearly €100 less than the Bluetooth version. Is there an adapter or small device I can plug the headset into that would connect wirelessly to my computer over Bluetooth, essentially adding wireless functionality? I'd also like to know whether this would support the headset's microphone and introduce noticeable audio delay.

Keep in mind that Bluetooth usually compresses the audio and can have more delay than a wired connection. A good receiver can sound fine, but it may not match the quality or responsiveness of using the headset directly. If you mainly want wireless convenience and don’t need perfect gaming performance, it’s a cheaper option than buying a new headset.

Yes, Bluetooth audio receivers can make a wired headset wireless. Most connect to the headset through a 3.5 mm audio plug, then pair with your computer. The receiver still has to be attached to you and recharged, so it won’t be as tidy as a purpose-built wireless headset.

For basic listening or casual calls, a small Bluetooth adapter should work well. For gaming headsets, check the specifications carefully: many adapters use their own built-in microphone instead of passing through the headset’s boom mic. Bluetooth can also add noticeable latency, so look for a model that supports a low-latency codec if that matters to you.
