Can I customize the iPhone keyboard to place punctuation beside the space bar?

I recently switched to an iPhone 17 after using Samsung phones for nearly 12 years. I made the change because several of my previous phones failed unexpectedly, but I'm having trouble adjusting to the iPhone typing experience. Is there any way to add or move punctuation keys to either side of the space bar, or place them in a number row like on some Android keyboards?

For moving the cursor while typing, press and hold the space bar, then slide your finger around. It turns the keyboard into a trackpad so you can position the cursor more precisely.

I’m familiar with that gesture from Android, but I appreciate the tip.

You could try a third-party keyboard such as Gboard. It offers some layout and customization options that may feel closer to what you were used to on Android.

Thanks, I’ll give Gboard a try.

The built-in iPhone keyboard doesn’t let you physically rearrange or move individual keys. You’ll need to use its default layout, although double-tapping the space bar quickly inserts a period followed by a space.
