Can I replace one failed DDR5 stick with a different brand?

I bought a 2×16 GB DDR5-6000 CL30 TeamGroup T-Create kit about two years ago, but one stick has failed after testing the memory and slots. A matching replacement is currently too expensive. Can I install a 16 GB DDR5 stick from another brand, and what specifications or compatibility issues should I watch for?

The brand itself usually doesn’t matter. Try to match the capacity, DDR5 generation, rated speed, CAS latency, timings, and voltage as closely as possible. Even then, mixed memory may run at the speed and timings of the weaker module, so you might need to reduce the speed for stability.

Before buying a replacement, check whether the original kit has a warranty. Many memory kits have long warranties, although coverage can depend on the country where you’re making the claim. If that isn’t practical, replacing the entire kit with a matched pair is generally more reliable than mixing a single new stick with the old one.

I moved to another country because of family, so I’m not sure whether the warranty is valid internationally.

DDR5 can be more sensitive to mismatched modules than older memory. A 16 GB DDR5-6000 CL30 stick is a reasonable match on paper, but identical specifications don’t guarantee identical memory chips or controllers. If your system is using an overclocked memory profile such as XMP or EXPO, you may need to lower the frequency, loosen the timings, or adjust the voltage. Test the finished configuration thoroughly for stability.
