Can I Replace Windows With Fedora in a Clean, Single-Drive Installation?

I've never used Linux before, and I'm tired of Windows-related privacy concerns. I only have one NVMe drive, so I don't want to dual-boot. During a Fedora installation, can I choose an option that completely erases the drive and installs Fedora as the only operating system? I'd also like to know what Linux users recommend instead of Wallpaper Engine for animated or interactive wallpapers. Finally, can I run Forza Horizon 6 on Linux if I purchased it through the Xbox app rather than Steam?

Yes. Fedoraโ€™s installer has an option to erase the selected drive and use it entirely for Fedora. That removes Windows and all existing files on that drive, so back up anything important first. The general process is to download the Fedora ISO, create a bootable USB, boot from it, and select the erase-and-install option during setup.

MellowCedar42: Thatโ€™s exactly the confirmation I was looking forโ€”thanks!

For animated wallpapers, Linux doesnโ€™t have a perfect one-to-one replacement for Wallpaper Engine. Your desktop environment may support wallpaper plugins, and tools such as awww can display supported image formats, but video and interactive wallpaper support varies considerably by desktop and display server. Itโ€™s worth checking options specifically for GNOME, KDE Plasma, or whichever desktop you choose.

The installation steps are basically the same as replacing any operating system: boot from a Linux USB, choose the target drive, and tell the installer to erase it and use the whole disk. There isnโ€™t usually a separate Windows uninstall stepโ€”the new installation overwrites the old one.

Games bought through the Xbox app generally canโ€™t be installed through Steam or run directly with the usual Windows-game compatibility tools. Xbox cloud gaming may work if the title is supported, while running the Windows version in a virtual machine with GPU passthrough is a much more complicated possibility. For a straightforward Linux installation, you should assume the Xbox app version itself wonโ€™t work locally.
