Can I swap my PSU without changing the cables?

I just installed a be quiet! Pure Power 13 M 850W PSU, but now I'm thinking about upgrading to the 1000W version. My setup is tight in some areas, so I'm wondering if I can just swap the PSUs without having to change out all the cables. Is that possible, or should I really replace the cables too?

You might get away with it if you're staying within the same model series, but I wouldn't risk it. Check the manuals for both PSUs to see if the cable part numbers match. If you're unsure, it's safer to just swap the cables out and avoid any potential disasters later.

It's generally not a good idea to reuse cables from different model PSUs, even if they’re from the same brand. Manufacturers can change the pin layouts or the wiring, which could lead to some serious issues. It's best to use the cables that come with the new PSU to avoid any risks.

Honestly, I wouldn't recommend trying to reuse the cables. Even if they look the same, there could be differences that aren't obvious. And remember, 850W is usually more than enough for most builds unless you’re running some really high-end components.

If you're feeling adventurous, go for it, but be ready for some possible consequences! It could end up being a risky move. Just make sure you understand the risks before you proceed!

When upgrading within the same model family, you might be able to reuse certain cables, but it’s best to confirm first. Always better to be safe than sorry!
