I have an ASUS Zenbook 14 running Windows 11 with an AMD Ryzen 5 processor and 16GB of RAM. The laptop doesn't appear to have any accessible RAM slots. Is there a practical way to upgrade the memory to 32GB, or is the RAM permanently fixed to the motherboard?

On most Zenbook 14 models, the memory is soldered directly to the motherboard, so there isn’t a normal upgrade path. You would generally need to purchase a configuration that already has 32GB installed. The exact answer depends on the full model number, since the Zenbook 14 line includes several different versions.

If the RAM is soldered, replacing it would require advanced microelectronics work and is usually expensive, risky, and not worthwhile. Check the exact model specifications or carefully inspect the laptop for memory slots before assuming it can be upgraded.

Adding a USB drive or changing the storage will not increase system RAM. External storage can provide more space, but it won’t help applications that need additional memory. For future purchases, check whether the laptop uses replaceable or soldered RAM before choosing the configuration.

That makes sense—I was asking about memory for running programs, not extra file storage. I’ll check the complete model number and see whether a 32GB factory configuration exists.
