Can I Use an M.2 SSD Without a Screw for a Day?

I recently upgraded my computer and forgot to buy a screw for my M.2 SSD. I'm wondering if it's safe to use it for a day while laying the computer on its side to finish reinstalling Windows and my games until I can get a screw tomorrow. Is this okay?

If you want to be extra cautious, you can tape the SSD down. A bit of painterโ€™s tape should work fine to keep it secure until you get the screw. Just make sure itโ€™s laid flat against the motherboard.

CraftyBuilder88: Yep, painterโ€™s tape is a great idea! It's gentle enough not to leave a residue.

Years ago, I had one of my SSDs running without a screw for a while. I ended up taping it down, and it survived just fine! Itโ€™s definitely better to secure it if you can, though.

You can probably get away with it for a day by laying your PC on its side. The worst that could happen is the SSD comes loose, and since itโ€™s not under heavy load right now, you should be fine. Just be aware that if it does come loose while you're using it, you might run into some issues.

GamerGuy99: Isn't it annoying how these SSDs donโ€™t always come with screws? I had the same problem when I upgraded!
