Can I Use My Controller to Control My PC Completely?

Hey everyone! I'm curious if there's a way to control my PC using just a game controller. The main reason I want to do this is that I'm going on summer vacation and I'd prefer not to lug around my bulky keyboard and mouse. I'm thinking of using my Bose QuietComfort in-ear headphones for audio while playing games. However, I've read that I might always need a keyboard for starting up my PC or fixing any issues that come up. Ideally, I'd like to navigate around with the controller and maybe use some kind of virtual keyboard for typing. Just so you know, I won't be bringing my monitor—just the PC—and I plan to use one that's already there. So, I'm hoping to minimize what I carry, but I'm open to bringing a compact keyboard if necessary!

You could try using Steam's Big Picture mode to launch your games, which works well with a controller. Just be aware that you might occasionally hit a snag that requires a mouse or keyboard. A small keyboard or mini mouse could be a good backup option to bring along—they won’t take up much space, especially since you’re already carrying your desktop and monitor!

Unless you have a touchscreen, you’re likely to face some challenges controlling everything. There are compact keyboard/mouse combos you can find online that are really portable. I have one that includes a touchpad—it’s not much thicker than an inch and runs on AA batteries for ages. Perfect for keeping in your backpack when you need it!

You can totally set up Steam to map your controller for desktop use, so you can control your mouse with the left stick and click with the right trigger. Plus, with the home button and square/X combo, you can access a virtual keyboard whenever you need it!
