Can I Use My Dell Dock with a PCIe USB Card on My Desktop PC?

I'm trying to figure out a setup that lets me easily switch between my work laptop and my personal tower PC. I'm currently using a Dell Dock with my laptop, and I'd like to connect it to my desktop as well, so I only have to switch one cable. I have two DisplayPort and one HDMI monitor connected to the dock. I believe if I get a PCIe USB-C card that supports DisplayPort Alt Mode, I should be able to use the dock for my PC too, right? Also, is there any risk in connecting the dock to my PC, considering the dock has a 140W power supply that powers both the dock and the laptop?

In theory, that setup could work! As long as you have a USB-C connection that supports DP Alt Mode, you should be fine with not having the dock's power input connected to your PC. However, it's best to test it out to be sure!

Sounds good! I think I’ll give it a shot and see how it goes.
