I heard that the B850 motherboard features PCIe 5.0 M.2 slots, but I currently have PCIe 3 and 4 SSDs. If I upgrade my motherboard from B550 to B850, will I need to buy new SSDs, or can I continue to use my existing ones?

Yes, you can definitely use your PCIe 3 and 4 SSDs in the B850 motherboard! PCIe technology is designed to be backwards compatible, so you won't have to replace your drives if you upgrade your mobo.

To add on, while Gen 5 drives can offer better performance, the differences in load times compared to Gen 4 or 3 are minimal for general use. So you're not missing out on much sticking with what you already have.

Exactly! PCIe is backwards compatible, and honestly, upgrading to a Gen 5 SSD might not give you a noticeable boost unless you're doing something very specific. For most everyday tasks and gaming, Gen 4 or even Gen 3 drives will work just fine!
