Can I Use Tap Water to Clean My iPhone Charging Port After Dropping It in Soup?

I accidentally dropped my phone in pho, the Vietnamese soup, for just a couple of seconds. I dried it off pretty quickly, but after a few hours of use, I got a warning about water in the charging port. I turned it off, searched for advice, and found that some suggest using distilled water for cleaning. Unfortunately, I don't have any distilled water at home and can't get to the store. I'm curious if it's safe to use tap water instead, or should I just wait until morning to get the distilled water? I'm really worried about damaging my phone!

Avoid using tap water at all costs! Instead, try cleaning the port with isopropyl alcohol on a cotton swab. Just make sure it's completely dry before you power it back on.

Thanks! I actually found some isopropyl alcohol at home and used it with a Q-tip. I'll let it dry a bit longer.

I suggest waiting it out. Tap water can have minerals that could damage your phone further. It's safer to hold off on cleaning until you can get distilled water.
