My Majestic BT8488 MP4 player was exposed to water. I closed it and wiped it with a piece of paper, but after turning it on, the screen glitched for about 20 minutes before the device shut off. Moisture exposure can lead to corrosion even if the player starts working again, and given the device’s low replacement cost, professional repair may cost more than a newer unit. If you cannot safely open and clean it, replacement is probably the practical option.
Because it was powered on while wet, a short circuit may already have damaged the mainboard. Disconnecting the battery after a few hours is still better than leaving it connected, but it cannot undo damage that may already have happened. Do not reconnect or charge it until every part is completely dry.
If the water was dirty or contained minerals, the board may need to be cleaned with high-purity isopropyl alcohol, ideally 99%, before drying. Lower-strength rubbing alcohol contains a significant amount of water. This is safest when done promptly and only if you are comfortable opening the device.
Stop trying to power it on immediately. Disconnect the battery if you can, open the casing, and let the components dry thoroughly in moving air for at least 48–72 hours. Rice is not a good drying method—it can leave dust behind and does not reliably remove moisture. Even if it works again, corrosion may cause problems later.
