Can the PSWindowsUpdate Module Upgrade Windows 11 Between Feature Versions?

Can the PSWindowsUpdate PowerShell module upgrade a computer from Windows 11 23H2 to 24H2? I know the module can search for and install individual KB updates, but I'm unsure whether feature updates are exposed the same way or whether there is a specific KB number for the new Windows version.
Answers
Yes, it can work because PSWindowsUpdate is essentially another interface to the Windows Update service. If Windows Update offers the 24H2 feature update to that machine, the module can generally install it too. It does not bypass compatibility checks, safeguards, policies, or phased rollout restrictions, though, so the result should be the same as using the normal Windows Update client.

Feature upgrades are handled differently from ordinary monthly KBs, and they may not appear when you search for a specific update ID. Some people have managed to trigger them through the module, but others have had no success when the update was not being offered normally. Check the deviceโs compatibility, safeguard holds, update policies, and rollout status before assuming the command failed.

For a few computers, using PSWindowsUpdate may be fine since it follows the Windows Update service. For managing feature upgrades across many systems, Windows Update for Business or another centralized update-management method is usually a better fit than running the PowerShell module individually on each machine.

BrightMarble2: So itโs not necessarily something you install by targeting one KB number. The feature update has to be offered to the device by Windows Update first.
