Can You Critique My $1,700 1440p Gaming PC Before I Buy It?

I've been assembling a roughly $1,700 gaming setup and would appreciate an honest critique before ordering anything. The main games will be Minecraft, Fortnite, Rocket League, and Warzone at 1440p. Please point out weaknesses rather than simply saying it looks fine.

I'm particularly unsure whether the CPU and GPU are balanced, whether all the components are compatible, whether 16GB or 32GB of memory makes more sense, and whether the SSD offers good value. I'd also like to know if there's a better graphics card for similar money, whether the 650W power supply is sufficient and reliable, and whether the CPU cooler is adequate for AM5 without interfering with the memory or case.

The build also includes a fairly elaborate fan and lighting setup: three reverse-blade RGB fans at the front as intake, three standard RGB fans at the rear as exhaust, a daisy chain for the front fans, separate connections for the rear fans, plus RGB lighting on the cooler and memory. I want the system to look good, but not at the expense of cooling. Are the airflow direction, 5V ARGB versus 12V RGB connectors, and motherboard fan-header requirements all being handled correctly? I'd rather make changes now than discover problems after buying everything.

The overall build is workable, but several parts look poorly priced. Check whether a Ryzen 5 7600X is cheaper than the 7500F, since it can be the better buy at the right price. A dual-tower cooler would also give you more thermal headroom, and the cooler should include thermal paste, so that extra tube probably isn’t needed.

The memory kit appears especially expensive for 16GB. At this budget, 32GB of DDR5-6000 is the sensible target, preferably a 2x16GB kit with reasonable timings. The motherboard may also be worth comparing against newer boards with more features if they cost about the same.

The SSD is not necessarily bad, but compare it with models that include a DRAM cache if the price difference is small. I’d also choose a fully modular, ATX 3.x 750W power supply for additional upgrade room. Your 650W unit may run the current system, but 750W gives you more flexibility.

For 1440p gaming, I’d prioritize spending more on the graphics card. The GPU is likely to be your main performance limit, especially in Warzone, so a stronger card may provide a more noticeable improvement than spending extra on the motherboard or cosmetic parts. Look for current pricing on cards in the next performance tier and compare real 1440p benchmarks before committing.

You may also find bundle discounts on a Ryzen 5 9600X or 7600X with a motherboard and memory. If a bundle saves enough, that could free up money for a faster GPU. I’d still stick with 32GB of memory, use a less expensive but reputable SSD, and consider a case that already includes three decent fans.

The fan plan is more complicated than it needs to be. Reverse-blade fans are mainly useful when you want the visible side of the fan facing inward while maintaining a particular airflow direction; they aren’t automatically better for front intake. Normally, use intake fans at the front and exhaust fans at the rear or top, with airflow moving front-to-back.

Also verify the case’s supported fan sizes and the motherboard’s headers before buying splitters or hubs. Fan power connectors and lighting connectors are separate: 3-pin 5V ARGB must not be connected to a 4-pin 12V RGB header. A powered fan/RGB hub can make six fans much easier to connect, and it reduces the number of motherboard headers you need. The 650W supply is probably sufficient for the current parts, but a quality fully modular 750W model would be a safer long-term choice.
