Is it practical to create or run text-based games in PowerShell or a command prompt? I'm especially interested in examples, existing code, or libraries that could help with something like a simple adventure game, Hangman, or another console game.

A basic text adventure such as Zork or Hangman would be a reasonable project, and itโ€™s a good way to practice variables, loops, input handling, and randomization. PowerShell isnโ€™t really designed for games, but small console games are completely achievable.

Yes, itโ€™s definitely possible. PowerShell can read key presses and update specific console positions with methods such as [Console]::SetCursorPosition(), so you could build games like Snake, Tetris, or a simple character-movement demo. There donโ€™t seem to be many dedicated game libraries, though, so youโ€™d likely be writing most of the game logic yourself.

For anything beyond a small experiment, another language would be more suitable. Python keeps the learning curve low, while C# gives you better performance and access to proper game or graphics frameworks. PowerShell can also launch Windows Forms or WPF and interact with compiled .NET code, but that quickly becomes more complicated than using a game-oriented tool.
