I accidentally spilled coffee on the left side of my laptop. Roughly 20–30% of the spill reached the keyboard. I wiped the surface and pressed several keys while cleaning it. The laptop was initially turned off, but I later tried powering it on several times. It eventually started, although some keys did not work at first. They began working again briefly, but then the laptop shut down. Before that happened, I noticed a faint electrical or buzzing sound. It now powers on for about five seconds before shutting off, and the sound has stopped.
I have positioned the laptop in an inverted tent shape so any remaining liquid can drain out. The coffee contained two spoonfuls of sugar. Is professional cleaning likely to be enough, or could the spill have permanently damaged the laptop? What kind of repair cost should I expect if cleaning alone does not fix it?

The keyboard may be the only part that needs replacement if the laptop has a protective layer beneath it, but that depends heavily on the model, age, and how much liquid reached the motherboard. A keyboard replacement can be relatively affordable, while motherboard damage may cost enough that replacement is more sensible. Avoid turning it on again until it has been inspected and fully dried.
Stop trying to power it on immediately. Every attempt can cause more damage if liquid or residue is still inside, especially since the coffee contained sugar. Take it to a repair shop as soon as possible and have them disconnect the battery and clean the internals properly. The sooner it is cleaned, the better the chance of saving it.
