Considering Upgrading from a 3080 to a 5070: Is It Worth It?

I'm planning to upgrade my graphics card this year and I'm considering switching from my current 3080 to a 5070. The 5070 Ti is out of my budget at over $1100, but I can grab the 5070 for around $600, which seems reasonable. My PC is primarily used for software development during the day and gaming in the evenings, mainly playing single-player games at 1440p. Some of the latest titles I've enjoyed include Elden Ring, Baldur's Gate 3, and a few sessions of Destiny 2 with friends. I need to stick to NVIDIA because I occasionally work with software that depends on the CUDA stack. Given all that, do you think this upgrade is worth it?

Even the 5070 Ti doesn't seem worth it compared to a 3080 unless you're gaming at 4K. I'd skip the 5070 entirely.

The 5070 is a slight upgrade in terms of raster performance, but with things like DLSS, it might be more viable. Still, I wouldn't rush to upgrade. If your 3080 only has 10GB of VRAM, moving to the 12GB in the 5070 could be beneficial.

That's an interesting take, thanks for sharing!

Honestly, upgrading to a 5070 isn't really justified unless it offers some features you urgently need. It's not a significant improvement over the 3080.
