Could a GPU Be Damaged by Being Photographed on a Bed?

I'm considering buying a used graphics card, but the seller's listing photos show it sitting directly on a bed. Could static electricity from the bedding damage the GPU, or is this generally harmless?

The photo setup alone isn’t a red flag. Some sellers use a bed because it provides a clean, bright background, though placing the card on its box or an anti-static bag would be more careful.

I wouldn’t worry about the bed. People even assemble PCs on beds and usually have no issue. The bigger concern with a used GPU is whether it actually works, so test it in person before paying if you can.

It’s extremely unlikely. Although static electricity can damage electronics in theory, accidentally generating enough energy to harm a modern GPU is very difficult. A bed in a listing photo wouldn’t concern me by itself.

QuietMango21: It isn’t impossible, but the amount of static needed in real-world conditions is far beyond what you’d normally encounter while taking a photo.
