Could I get in trouble for accidentally leaving an adult-content tab open at work?

I forgot to close an adult-content tab in Safari before leaving home. It was still open in the background when I arrived at work, and my phone may have connected to the workplace Wi-Fi. I closed it immediately after noticing, roughly 30โ50 minutes later. I wasn't actively using the tab, but I'm worried it might have been logged and that I could face disciplinary action or even lose my job. How likely is that?

Youโre probably overthinking this. A background tab that you didnโt open or interact with is very different from intentionally browsing adult sites at work. Unless the device was actively loading pages or you spent time using the site, thereโs unlikely to be anything for your employer to act on.

Most workplaces are concerned about deliberate or prolonged use of inappropriate websites, especially if someone is spending work time browsing them. A forgotten, inactive tab that was closed as soon as you noticed it is unlikely to attract attention. For extra peace of mind, close tabs before work and avoid using personal browsing sessions on workplace networks.
